The one in bloom

Happy first winter day, everyone! Just when the snow hit the ground I want to introduce you the fashion show which literally blooms. Everybody loves flowers, right?

So I did understand that I made a little mistake last time I posted about AMQ. I talked about a great brand, which actually counts a lot of fashion shows and I talked about all of them at a time. That's why I didn't cover all of it. Bad move, huh? This time I'm going to focus on the one event and I will do my best to tell and show you everything about it!

Today we will analyse the Dior Autumn/Winter 2012 fashion show. A very unique and unusual show, which was a Raf Simon’s debut ( new brand designer).
As you see above and below, Dior was always all about flowers. Jewels, dresses, skirts, tops, bottoms, perfume - everything was with flower print or fragrance. But this time Raf Simons blew everyone's mind. He managed to decorate five rooms in the Dior fashion house with fresh flowers.

If there’s ever been a show that the fashion world has waited with absolute bated breath to see, it’s this one: Raf Simonsdebut for Christian Dior. And not just any debut – the Belgian designer, who was appointed as creative director in April this year, was asked to hit the ground running by starting off with working his magic on its couture line. This is a man who likes to be busy and a designer people like and admire - something which was very much in evidence at the show today with the likes of Harvey Weinstein, Charlene, Princess of Monaco, Marc Jacobs, Donatella Versace, Marion Cotillard, Alber Elbaz, Stella Tennant, Charlotte Rampling, Natalia Vodianova and Riccardo Tisci all eagerly waiting to see what he would do.  Haute couture is known for exuberance and drama. And while this first Raf Simon’s collection for Dior was thoughtfully restrained paying homage to the legacy of Monsieur Dior, the set was a kaleiodoscopic feast of flowers.

Before the show even started the select public in attendance as well as the world wide audience poised before their computer screens (the show was lived-streamed) were simply awed by such impressive display.

And what he did do was something really beautiful. “It was what you hoped for and more – it was such a beautiful homage to Dior, a mix of the modern, clean and unexpected with a real lightness of touch,” said Voguefashion director Lucinda Chambers after the show, describing the mood pre-show as filled with expectation and hope.

I mentioned earlier there were five rooms which had a unique flower design. As Dior official site reports: It was a Jardin Couture. I found out what flowers were in each space:

It was more elegant than elegant and he trod a brilliant line of being him and being respectful of Dior, I loved it,” said Chambers.

"[It was] absolutely poetic," Elbaz told the Guardian. "It was perfection. Today was a beautiful marriage between a designer and a house."

The process of installing all those flowers took no more no less - four days.

Here you can watch an amazing special film on the making of the fairytale come true:

And here you can enjoy the official video of the fashion show:

Five rooms all filled with different flowers all the way to the ceiling made for a setting not dissimilar to something you’d see in Alice in Wonderland, a notion that perhaps aptly sums up what he did: something magic. Well done Mr Simons indeed.

Hmm and what about advertising? Well, today's post shows you how to advertise a person and a brand to a public. Raf Simons wasn't a well known person, moreover Dior was typically using flowers, but when the debutant added his excellent sence of decorating - a lot of people found out that Dior changed it's creative director and an amount of people saw this fascinating show or it's photos on the TV and magazines and were astonished. Moreover half of them surely hit the local store or at least visited the web site.

Great Job!

  Raf Simons
